Julia "Nana" P. Engel, 91, of Braidwood, IL, passes away peacefully

Julia "Nana" P. Engel, aged 91, of Braidwood, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025. Born on June 6, 1934, in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Andrew and Helen Mrowca.

Julia married George L. Engel on May 24, 1963, and they owned and operated several establishments together. She was also a caretaker. Julia treasured traditions like her family's Pierogi Day and found joy in cooking, gardening, crafting, and caring for animals. She was a dedicated member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Braidwood and enjoyed time at the Braidwood Recreation Club.

She is survived by her children, Judy James, Janet Kalbfleisch, and Karl Engel, as well as 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Her sisters, Helen Wann and Diane Sramek, also survive her.

Visitation will be on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory in Braidwood, IL, followed by funeral services at 4:00 p.m. A private family burial will occur later. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
