Andrew B. Serena, 37, Grundy County Jail Correctional Officer, dies at 37

Andrew B. Serena, a 37-year-old Correctional Officer at Grundy County Jail, passed away at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL, on Sunday, April 13, 2025. Serena, born on October 21, 1987 in Morris, IL, had received his education from Joliet Junior College and Illinois State University. He is survived by his parents Leigh and David Opyd, Carmen and Janis Serena, brothers Keith and Patrick Serena, half-siblings Seth, Sara, and Jenna Serena, and step-siblings Michele Brewick and Kristi Thompson. Predeceasing him were his sister Samantha Serena and grandparents Fred and Faye Bally and Joseph and Mary Louise Serena. Visitation and funeral services are scheduled at R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory with cremation rites to follow and subsequent private inurnment at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.
